Miraidon ex and Magnezone Deck Guide in Pokémon TCG Pocket

A relentless Lightning engine that piles energy onto one attacker and trades knockouts faster than the opponent can rebuild.

This is a two-pronged Lightning deck that hoards LightningLightning Energy across the board and then dumps it all onto a single hitter to swing for huge numbers. Miraidon ex acts as a battery and a finisher, while Magnezone ex provides a hard-hitting Stage 2 body that comes down early thanks to Rare Candy. The win condition is simple: accelerate energy faster than the opponent can keep up, then take three knockouts before they stabilize.

Miraidon ex is the engine that ties the whole deck together. It is a Basic with 140 HP, and its Legendary Drive ability reads: once during your turn, when you put this Pokemon from your hand onto your Bench, you may switch it with your Active Pokemon, and if you do, move all of your Energy in play to this Pokemon. That lets you stockpile LightningLightning Energy on your bench across several turns and then consolidate every piece onto Miraidon in a single motion. Its attack Hadron Ray costs ColorlessColorlessColorlessColorless and does 20 damage plus 20 more for each LightningLightning Energy attached, so four Lightning reaches 100 damage, five reaches 120, six pushes it to 140, and it keeps growing from there.

Magnezone ex is the deck's second threat and a brutal early-game body at 180 HP. It is a Stage 2 that normally evolves from Magneton, but this build runs Magnemite plus Rare Candy to jump straight to Magnezone ex and skip the middle stage entirely. Its attack Storm Blade costs LightningLightningLightningLightning for 130 damage, then discards one LightningLightning Energy from itself. That self-discard means you need a steady energy stream to keep swinging, which is exactly what the rest of the deck provides. At 180 HP it is also a wall that many attackers cannot one-shot, buying you time to set up Miraidon behind it.

Electric Generator is the acceleration that makes the whole plan possible. As an Item it has you flip two coins, and for each heads you take a LightningLightning Energy from your Energy Zone and attach it to one of your benched Lightning Pokemon, fueling Magnezone ex or loading up the bench for a later Legendary Drive consolidation onto Miraidon ex. Because it is an Item and not a Supporter, you can chain it with Poké Ball and Professor's Research in the same turn, which is how the deck builds the four, five, or six energy totals that turn Hadron Ray into a knockout. Two copies keep the energy flowing even when you are pressured.

Future Booster Energy Capsule is a Tool that further smooths your energy curve, helping you reach attack costs a turn earlier than a fair board would allow. Attached to your main attacker, it supports the aggressive sequencing the deck wants, where you commit to one body and pile resources onto it. Pairing it with Electric Generator and Legendary Drive is what lets a single Miraidon ex go from empty to swinging for 100 or more in a short window. Treat it as a tempo tool: use it to hit a key damage threshold sooner rather than holding it for a perfect turn.

Matchups

MatchupFavorabilityHow to play it
Aggro Basics decksHeavily favoredLead with Magnezone ex behind Magnemite and let the 180 HP wall absorb their early hits. Storm Blade's 130 damage trades up into almost every Basic attacker they have, and you can stabilize before they take three points.
Stage 2 control decksFavoredRace their slower setup by getting Magnezone ex online turn two or three with Rare Candy. Use Iono to disrupt their hand once they start digging for evolution pieces, and keep a second attacker ready so a single knockout does not stop you.
Psychic special-energy decksEvenSave Field Blower for their Tools that would slow your energy plan. Sequence your LightningLightning Energy carefully so an opposing Cyrus dragging up your weakened Pokemon does not cost you the game.
Fighting-type decksUnfavoredBoth Miraidon ex and Magnezone ex carry a Fighting weakness, so respect their damage math and assume your bodies fall a hit early. Try to win the speed race by pushing knockouts before they evolve, and use Iono to strip their setup.
Heavy disruption and bench-control decksHeavily unfavoredWhen your energy is removed or shuffled away, the deck stalls badly. Commit energy to only what you need each turn, lean on Professor's Research to rebuild and Poké Ball to find a fresh attacker, and aim for quick knockouts before they lock you out.

The flex slots here are the single copies of Field Blower, Guzma, Iono, and Poké Ball. Field Blower earns its place against Tool-heavy decks but is close to dead against pure aggro, so it is the first cut if your local meta is fast. Guzma discards every Tool on the opponent's board, which removes the HP buffers that spoil Hadron Ray math, while Iono is your reset button when your hand bricks or when you want to shrink the opponent's resources. If your openings feel inconsistent, a second Poké Ball over Field Blower digs a Magnemite or Miraidon ex out of the deck more reliably. Avoid cutting the Electric Generator or Rare Candy lines, since those are the backbone of the acceleration.

How to pilot it

  1. Opening priorities: you want a Basic you can develop into pressure, ideally Magnemite (to set up Rare Candy into Magnezone ex) or Miraidon ex as a battery. An opening hand with Electric Generator plus any draw Supporter sets you up well.
  2. Opening turns: bench Magnemite early so Rare Candy can convert it into Magnezone ex on a later turn. Drop extra Lightning Pokemon to the bench so Electric Generator and Legendary Drive have targets.
  3. Energy sequencing: use Electric Generator to load LightningLightning Energy onto benched Pokemon, then trigger Miraidon ex's Legendary Drive by benching it from hand to pull all that energy onto it at once. This is the cleanest way to spike a big Hadron Ray.
  4. Reaching damage breakpoints: remember Hadron Ray is 20 plus 20 per LightningLightning. Aim for four energy for 100, five for 120, or six for 140, with no cap beyond that. Magnezone ex's Storm Blade is a flat 130 for LightningLightningLightningLightning but discards one energy, so plan your next attachment before you swing.
  5. Common misplays: do not trigger Legendary Drive before you have meaningful energy on the bench, or you waste the consolidation. Do not over-extend damaged benched attackers into an opposing Cyrus. And do not forget Storm Blade's self-discard when calculating whether you can attack again next turn.

Deck strengths

  • Fast, scalable damage: Hadron Ray grows with every LightningLightning Energy, hitting 140 with six attached and climbing higher with more.
  • Two distinct win paths: a 180 HP Magnezone ex wall and a flexible Miraidon ex battery and finisher.
  • Strong energy acceleration from Electric Generator, Future Booster Energy Capsule, and Legendary Drive.
  • Rare Candy lets Magnezone ex come down a turn early, skipping Magneton entirely.
  • Good consistency with double Professor's Research plus Poké Ball, Iono, and Pokemon Communication.

Deck weaknesses

  • Both ex attackers share a Fighting weakness, so Fighting decks punish the whole board.
  • Storm Blade's energy discard means a disrupted energy supply can leave Magnezone ex unable to follow up.
  • Energy removal and bench disruption hit the consolidation plan hard.
  • Relies on Rare Candy to hit Magnezone ex on curve; a slow Magnemite start delays the wall.
  • A single Iono from the opponent at the wrong moment can stall your setup turns.

Is it worth building?

If you have the pieces, this is one of the more rewarding Lightning shells to pilot. The build leans on a few key multi-copy engines (double Electric Generator, double Rare Candy, double Future Booster Energy Capsule) plus two ex lines, so it is a meaningful investment rather than a budget brew. It suits players who like proactive, math-driven turns where you set up energy and then cash it in for knockouts, and who are comfortable sequencing Legendary Drive correctly. If your local meta is flooded with Fighting types or heavy energy disruption, temper your expectations, but against the broad field this deck rewards tight play with fast, scalable pressure.
