Mega Shine brings Shiny Mega Evolutions to Pokemon TCG Pocket for the first time ever
Five Shiny Mega Evolution ex cards, the elusive Mew Immersive Art, and a Metal-type meta shakeup headline the B2b themed booster
Mega Shine has arrived in Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket, and it's rewriting what collectors and competitive players thought was possible. For the first time in any Pokemon TCG product, Shiny Mega Evolution Pokemon ex are now in the game, five of them, each at the coveted Double Shiny rarity. Combined with one of the rarest chase cards in Pocket's history, a meta-warping Metal archetype, and a stacked lineup of 117 cards, this is one of the most ambitious themed boosters the game has released.
Release date and time
Mega Shine launched on March 25, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. PDT (March 26 for Europe, Australia, and other UTC+ regions). A game update is required to access the new packs. You can read the official announcement here: Shiny Pokemon Glimmer Again in the Pokemon TCG Pocket Mega Shine Expansion.

The five Mega Evolution ex cards
The headline mechanic of Mega Shine is the arrival of Mega Evolution ex Pokemon. These are powerful Stage 1 or Stage 2 cards that hit harder than almost anything in the format, but they come with a steep cost: knocking out a Mega Evolution ex awards 3 prize points, meaning your opponent wins instantly. Every Mega ex on your bench is a high-stakes bet.
Mega Scizor ex (Metal) - The best card in the set
Mega Scizor ex has been immediately rated S-tier by competitive analysts. Paired with Revavroom, a Basic that deals 60 damage for just 2 Energy and adds 50 to your damage output, the Metal archetype has one of the most aggressive and consistent two-card cores in the game right now.
Mega Charizard X ex (Fire)
Mega Charizard X ex is a 220 HP Stage 2 tank. Raging Blaze does 100 damage for 3 Fire Energy, but jumps to a devastating 180 when your HP drops below 110. A new Charmeleon that accelerates Fire Energy on evolution helps you power it up fast, and the Shiny Double Star version is one of the set's most stunning chase cards.
Mega Gengar ex (Darkness)
Mega Gengar ex has been called "an amazing floodgate" by competitive players. As a Stage 1, it's faster to set up than Charizard X, and its ability to lock down opponent strategies makes it a staple in Darkness-focused builds. The Shiny Double Star art is hauntingly gorgeous.
Mega Slowbro ex (Water)
Mega Slowbro ex is the set's bench-damage specialist. Its attack flips 3 coins, dealing 20 damage to all of your opponent's benched Pokemon per heads on top of 90 base damage. When the coin flips go your way, Slowbro can dismantle an entire board in a single turn.
Mega Manectric ex (Electric)
Mega Manectric ex rounds out the five with free retreat and sniper potential. It's built to pick off benched threats while staying mobile, making it a flexible pivot piece for Electric-focused or hybrid decks.
The chase card: Shiny Mew Immersive Art
If there's one card that will define Mega Shine in the collecting community, it's the Shiny Mew Immersive Art, a 3-Star rarity card with an estimated pull rate of roughly 1 in 300 packs. This 50 HP Psychic-type carries Miraculous Memory, an attack that copies a random attack from your opponent's hand or deck, making every game with it unpredictable and memorable. It can be crafted for 1,500 Pack Points, but pulling it from a pack is the real trophy.
The set also includes a regular Mew Immersive Art at 3-Star rarity, both of which are only obtainable as bonus cards or from Themed Rare Packs.
Key cards beyond the Megas
Calem (Supporter)
Multiple analysts have called Calem the single best card in the set. This Supporter provides draw consistency that elevates every Mega-focused deck, and it's flexible enough to slot into non-Mega strategies too.
Darkrai
Darkrai introduces a sleep-focused strategy to the meta with its Bad Dreams ability. If you're looking for a disruption-heavy build that doesn't rely on Mega ex, Darkrai is your foundation.
Revavroom
Revavroom is a Basic that hits for 60 damage with just 2 Energy and amplifies your damage output by 50. Paired with Mega Scizor ex, this combo is already being called the strongest deck in the format.
Pack odds and what to know before opening
Mega Shine uses four pack probability tiers:
| Pack Type | Chance |
|---|---|
| Regular Pack | 94.706% |
| Regular Pack + 1 Bonus Card | 5.238% |
| Rare Pack | 0.050% |
| Themed Rare Pack | 0.005% |
The Themed Rare Pack is incredibly rare (1 in 20,000) but guarantees all five Mega Evolution ex cards in a single pull. The Mew Immersive Art cards and certain high-rarity cards are only available as bonus cards or from Rare/Themed Rare Packs, so don't expect to find them in slot 1-4 of a regular pack.
Events and missions to watch for
Mega Shine arrived alongside a packed event calendar:
- Mega Shine Emblem Event (through April 7): PvP battles for profile emblems. Gold medal at just 9 wins (down from the old 45-win grind).
- Community Week (early April): Trading and card-sharing missions with Trade Hourglass rewards.
- Slowpoke Drop Event (mid-April): Solo battles for Promo Pack B Series Vol. 6 cards, including an exclusive Art Rare Slowpoke.
- Wonder Pick Event (mid-late April): Gastly and Wigglytuff promo cards.
- 5 Secret Missions awarding 48 Pack Hourglasses, 40 Shop Tickets, and 144 Wonder Hourglasses. Complete all 30 Shiny cards to unlock the Shiny Mew Emblem.
Opening strategy
If you're spending hourglasses on Mega Shine, here's how to be efficient:
- Pick your Mega: Decide early if you're building around Mega Scizor ex (the competitive pick) or chasing the Shiny Mega ex variants (the collector pick). Both goals require different amounts of commitment.
- Don't sleep on Calem and Revavroom: These non-ex cards are the backbone of the strongest decks in the set. They're easier to pull, and you'll want multiple copies.
- Craft the last pieces: With 117 cards in the set, duplicate territory comes fast. Once you've opened 30-40 packs, targeted crafting will save you hourglasses.
- Track your collection: Use PocketCards' collection tracker to see exactly what you're missing before burning through hourglasses blindly.
Final thoughts
Mega Shine is a landmark release for Pokemon TCG Pocket. The introduction of Shiny Mega Evolution ex cards creates a new rarity ceiling, the Mew Immersive Art is an instant grail card, and the competitive meta is being reshaped by a Metal archetype that's faster and harder-hitting than anything we've seen before. Whether you're here for the collection, the competition, or just the thrill of opening packs, Mega Shine delivers.
