Crimson Blaze: Mega Charizard Y ex and more Megas ignite Pokémon TCG Pocket
The second Mega Evolution mini set brings Mega Venusaur ex, Mega Blastoise ex, and Mega Steelix ex
Crimson Blaze launched on December 17, 2025, exactly one year after Mythical Island set the standard for Pokémon TCG Pocket mini expansions. This time, the focus is squarely on Mega Evolution—specifically, Mega Charizard Y ex, Mega Venusaur ex, Mega Blastoise ex, Mega Lopunny ex, and Mega Steelix ex.
The Kanto starters go Mega
The original trio is back—and they've Mega Evolved. Mega Charizard Y ex headlines the set with a Fire/Flying-type card that builds on Charizard's already iconic status in TCG Pocket. Mega Venusaur ex adds Grass/Poison-type bulk, evolving through the classic Bulbasaur → Ivysaur → Venusaur line. Mega Blastoise ex completes the trio with Water-type firepower. For fans who grew up with Generation I, seeing all three Kanto starter Megas in one set is a nostalgia hit.
Beyond the starters
Crimson Blaze isn't just about Kanto nostalgia. Mega Lopunny ex brings a Normal/Fighting-type option that's fast and aggressive. Mega Steelix ex adds a Steel/Ground-type wall with impressive defensive stats. Both expand the Mega Evolution roster beyond the obvious picks and give deck builders more tools to work with.
The set also introduces Quick-Grow Extract, a new Trainer card that could accelerate evolution strategies—a fitting addition to an expansion centered on Mega Evolution.
Building on Mega Rising
Crimson Blaze is the second expansion to feature Mega Evolution Pokémon ex, following Mega Rising from October 2025. Where Mega Rising introduced the mechanic with Mega Gyarados, Mega Blaziken, and Mega Altaria, Crimson Blaze doubles down with the most recognizable Mega Evolutions in the franchise. The two sets together create a robust Mega Evolution card pool for competitive play.
83 cards, maximum impact
At 83 unique cards (103 total), Crimson Blaze is compact but dense with value. Five Mega Evolution ex cards in a single mini expansion is an impressive ratio, and each one evolves from a well-known Pokémon line. Collectors chasing alternate-rarity versions of these Megas will have plenty to hunt for, and battlers get five new powerful Stage 2 options to build around.
A fiery year-end release
Launching in mid-December, Crimson Blaze gives Pokémon TCG Pocket players a holiday-season expansion to dig into. The combination of beloved Mega Evolutions, a new Trainer card, and the continued evolution of the Mega mechanic makes this one of the most exciting mini sets since the game launched. If you've been saving your pack hourglasses, now's the time to spend them.
